Eee PC ACPI Utilities description:
My philosophy is that the model should be irrelevant, and only detected as a convenience. The tool should be light weight, and only consume as much memory as it absolutely requires. It should conform to known standards for the platform supported. Only non-standard components should be managed by the tool set. The tool should be deployed and managed through a repeatable process that's as user friendly as possible.

Specification:
  - Eee PC Utilities auto detect known Eee PC hardware

  - On demand toggles: WIFI, Bluetooth, Webcam, Screen on/off, External VGA output w/ clone mode, Display and touchpad rotation, Screen Resolutions, Touchpad, Mute, Volume Up/Down

  - Managed toggles: CPU mode (SHE, scale mode, kernel parameters, and FSB settings), Fan control, power mode specific kernel tuning, Disable overclock on Suspend / Hibernate, Stop or start services on CPU mode change.

  - Custom toggles: 4 completely customizable toggle functions

  - Source code (including packaging sources) available in SVN

  - Deployed via debian package, and managed through a public repository

Many configuration parameters, including an option to show you what key you pressed. It determines your hardware by looking at your PCI devices to identify the WIFI module, option override-able if you'd rather use ndiswrapper. You can also change the rate of volume up / down as well as the device which is autodetected by default.

Additionally, you can change the fan management mode between "auto" and "managed" and define custom temperature zones. The CPU shifts from ondemand to performance mode on power change (AC / Battery) as long as CPU Freq is installed.

Please note that this software is no longer supported, your mileage may vary. If you would like to submit patches, please use the Sources link above to reach the project page at Source Forge.
